Part of the Kotamayu series (arc 4).

The bathroom mirror was chipped at its corner, and covered in a fine layer of filth that was fitting of the apartment it resided in. Staring deeply into its glass face was a man by the same name. A Mirror. The glass told no tale of him, however, and all he could stare at was a reflectionless gap where he knew he should be. The rest of the room existed there, in that portal; but the one called The Mirror had no identity.

"Laef." the Mirror addressed his comrade. He was slouched lazily over a brown lounge chair, watching television at the highest resolution he'd ever imagined.
"Yeah?" he replied, tilting his head slightly to indicate his friend, but not letting his sights stray from the screen. So much had happened on Earth while they had been away for nearly 300 years. Documentaries of wars seemed like nothing compared to fighting in them - but for some reason Lathan found them far more real and fascinating than anything he'd been doing out in the stars.
"This one needs a name." the Mirror indicated, moving its smokey hand to its chest.
"Huh?" Laef muttered, looking over at the ghostly figure. "What?"
"This one..." the Mirror's eyes darted about the room, almost as if he were embarrassed. "...it needs a name."
Laef went back to watching television while he thought about it. The remote in his hand was one button, that when held down used a complicated algorithm to decide which channel the user wanted. It responded based on the time and pressure, as well as key words being said in the documentary to calculate reactions. The channel switched over to a cooking show - nothing like Laef had wanted. His face screwed up and he got up to turn the machine off.

"The time for names like Kotamayu gave us is over, Mirror." he walked the length of the room to get a snack from the table. Rummaging through the plastic bag he found a fresh apple and a carton of juice. "Its up to you to decide your own name. Just like how I chose my new title, the Ghostblader. I'm not Kotamayu's war hero anymore."
The Mirror ran a hand over its face, trying to determine its shape. The spectral mass simply slid about under his hand like thick smoke.
"It was Krayden's idea." Laef insisted. "He said we're on our own now. That its time to find our own way in the universe. I think ever since his son died, Krayden's felt a little more freed from his past. Ironic, huh?"
Laef knew Krayden had loved his son; but it was the truth - Krayden had found new motivation now that he'd had the chance to meet his son. It was a pity that after all that time, they had had so little to share.

Later that evening, Yudasarus was lying in the bathtub; his human counter-part asleep on the outside. The water was shallow, but with such a huge monster in there, it rose to nearly the top. A rubber duck sat gently on his tongue as he played.
"evEn if I'M paRt of HIM... I'M stiLl ME, rigHT?"
The Mirror had no reply. He simply stared at the mirror while water splashed out of the tub and near his feet.
"whAT abouT you?" Yudasarus said, his energetic voice now crippled with his imminent death.
The Mirror turned and looked down at the defeated brute. "This one?"
"YeAH... eVen iF you hAVe all oF oUR personaLities... You'RE stilL a pErson, right?"
"This... Never... Thought about it."
"I thiNK you DO... If YOu didn'T haVe someThin' speCIal in YOUR heaRt... KotaMayu wouldn'T HAve pickED ya..."
"Yudasarus... thinks so?"
"I KNow So... DoUG is reAl spECial." his clawed hand patted the human child that connected to his waist. "If I GOTta Die... Its GONna be for HIm, y'KNOw?"

The Mirror sat in the puddle on the floor, wrapping his arms around Doug and looking at Yudasarus in the bath.
"In the language of Kotamayu's home, 'Yudasarus' means 'Loyalty'."
"REally?" Yudasarus smiled. "diDn'T know."
"Its good for Yudasarus to be called Yudasarus." the Mirror agreed.
"What about you, then?" Laef asked, sticking his head through the door, smiling. He'd been outside for a while now. "What would you like to be called?"
The Mirror looked between his three friends.
"Suphysus." he decided after a long silence. "In the language of Kotamayu's home, 'Suphysus' means 'the changing of the seasons'."

"Suphysus the Mirror, then." Laef nodded. "Welcome to the family."

In the dead of night, while Yudasarus slept on the couch and Laef had retired to his bedroom; Suphysus stood at the bathroom mirror, wondering if this person he could see in its reflection was him. At least he could tell they were friendly.

As long as we have a rag of freedom, a bottle of truth, a galon of unity and a match of willpower, we`ll always assemble the molotov of justice!

Y'know, I think you may have greater talent in writing than most of the other stuff I've observed. You have a rare gift in telling a believable story, even if the circumstances of the story are unbelievable at best.
